Small Victories

So, I’ve finally finished a six month stretch of training for my new job and it’s definitely with mixed emotions. Mostly good stuff though as I look ahead to a brave new future with possibility and cool stuff that I didn’t even think would be available to me even a year ago.    From finding out a parent is ill and losing my job as soon as I returned from being with him, to financial crises all winter long and battling just to survive, to stumbling on a pretty cool person to share my weird world with, finally succeeding at the job and passing training to now actually working and making a normal wage.    As of tonight, my first complete shift on a road trip, I gear up to head back home to winnipeg and put another road trip under my belt, there’s a sense of something good on the horizon. Not at all implying it will be easy as life refuses to work like that, but something worth working and fighting for. It’s a far cry from a year ago where my job was up in the air...

Day 7 - Ive got the conch, dammit!

Or, ‘how I survived a week living with myself’.  It’s the home stretch.  The Woman is doing spectacular things and I am very proud of her effort and work, it’s really cool!  I will be happy to see her and show off all of my amazing feats and accomplishments.  I’ve gotten very good at repairing broken things with duct tape, mostly because I keep breaking them this week. Practice makes perfect?    Anyway, my final entry for the week away will be short and sweet.  I survived.  The dog survived, and as of an hour ago when I left for work... the house has survived.  Mostly.    In the next 24 hours I’ll be working 16 of them so I thought I’d do the final entry a bit early...    Maybe there will be more random entries. I didn’t even get to my flooring and I’m so awesome with power tools.  (Hiding the sawsall cut marks all along the wall).   That... that should buff right out.   Anyway!  I’m taking ...

Day 6 - The Insanity

The woman is killing it in her tournament, it’s very cool.     I also am killing it... IT being my sanity as I try to do various ‘home renos’ armed with power tools and duct tape.     Duct tape.  Oooooh duct tape, how I hate you sometimes.  Why must you constantly fold in half RIGHT BEFORE I APPLY YOU?!?!  Then, inevitably, the black cloud of swear words as I hopelessly try to pull it apart, making it worse and having to give up and try again with a new piece.  Repeat awful process.    I guess I won’t be able to fix my poor plant after all. Stupid duct tape.    Took the dog to the cabin so she gets some last minute water and sun time before summer flees and I become insanely busy. She was enjoying the water and time with friends including successfully not eating any of the other smaller dogs that she’s ‘friends’ with.  I’ll take that win every day of the week.    You know what’s worse than a bug in the car when y...

Day 5 ... I think...

It’s all a blur now... not enough sleep, too much work, and not enough sleep have made me a complete narcoleptic.    ‘I think I’ll just sit on this bench in the shade of this here tree and ponder the univ...... Zzz’    ‘Ahhh a stop light after work. I’ll just close my eyes for a moment and jus.....’ HONK HOOOOOOONK   ‘I have a great idea for my weekend to begin! I’ll go hang out with a mechanic buddy and watch HIM work after I worked and we can catch up on ..... Zzz’  Adventures! Supposed to take the dog to the lake but maybe I’ll just take a nap in my tub and simulate me falling asleep in the lake. At least the fish are smaller in my tub.    I love mosquitos.   That is all.  I’m certain that my Neighbour is stalking me. Every time I step out of the house he comes tearing out of his (usually with an alarming lack of clothing) to talk about ridiculous things that don’t make any sense.    The weeds are as high as his roof (HE’S p...

Day 4

A strange day today. Drove around after work and ran errands (basically drank my timmies and roamed around). Made plans to do important things with important people... because I’m that kind of guy.  Yup. Many leatherbound books, my living room Smells of rich mahogany.    More adventures had today! Mostly of the non-sleep variety, but really, who needs sleep anyway? Certainly not me and my new friends, the smurfs who are hanging out with me in the living room in their little spaceships.     Sleep. Pshhhhh.     Cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. It won’t get done today but at least I can use these scented candles and not feel like I’ve cheated the cleaning process.  Smelly candles always go last. It’s in the Adulting Rules, Page 147, rule 394.7 B.    It’s science.   Side note - bathroom mess isn’t awesome mess. Ugh. Trying to train Moxie how to use caustic chemicals and scrub brushes to do some of this work for me.  Also t...

Day 3

I’ve made a list! I’m so organized now, except I lost  the list somewhere. Maybe I’ll do what’s on the list and it will turn up.  Mostly cleaning and home repair!     Adventures with power tools!! So much room for activities!   Today I did yardwork.  I chopped and trimmed and cursed and kicked until the lock on the shed finally opened for me.     Took an hour nap.    Went back to the shed to start mowing the lawn, battled with the lock again because I locked it to go have a nap, you see.     It turns out I actually have a front lawn and not just a jungle landscape!  The dog was happy as well, exploring the new space. It was cool that her bathroom breaks didn’t look like scenes from Jurassic Park with giant plants swaying around as she tried to poke around out there.    Moxie has been helpful, supervising me as I worked; judging, watching.  She’s taken up the reins of the Woman quite admirably. Overall we got...

Day 2

Went to Walmart after work today, bought 80 rolls of TP, so that problem solved.  Go big then go home I guess. Forgot what I went there for and came out with beef jerky, a new pillow and some socks, none of which are things I needed ... besides the TP. Definitely needed that.  My plan to turn Moxie into a mummy can come to fruition.  So many adventures!   Having trouble with this ‘sleeping during the day’ thing.  Been researching vampires and mostly learned that I need to fill my bed with soil and all sharp wooden objects need to be packed up.  Didn’t help me sleep though, just got dirt in my ear.    Fridge ‘ingredients’ still not maturing into cake or lasagne.  I’ll give it a couple more days.  In the meantime, I talked to my friend on the phone, the one with the weird name, Pizza Hotline, he’s coming by with chinese food or something... I was too hungry to pay attention to what he was saying but he’s solid like that.    All t...

A Week Left Alone - Day 1

Day One - Dropped the woman off at the airport.  Sad to see her off but excited for all the new adventures and activities I can accomplish with all the spare time... *17 minutes later* ... ran out of supplies at the house. I thought I had way more TP than this... Food is low.  Well, pre made food.  Apparently there are ‘ingredients’ I can mix up or something, and more food can happen? I don’t really understand it all, I tried watching the woman cooking but found some fruit salad and lost interest.  Regretting that now.   Only option now is sleep.   *later in the evening* Feeling a little lost, when did my house get so messy?! Still no food, my plan to leave all the ‘ingredients’ in the fridge together in hopes they’d make food babies was a failure.     This week... this week will be a challenge
