Post Christmas PostScript
Spent Christmas with the family yesterday, and it was a really good night. Spending time with all the nephews and nieces was a rare treat...
My eldest niece Bethany is a wizard with the piano and with my fumbling guitar skills, I quickly learned how to play the song along with her. I'm thinking she has an amazing voice as well, and is almost ready for that next step. She is also 14 and shyness is still a part of the equation too.
It was a real blessing to listen to her play, and so well, and to play with her... it was a special moment.
The same goes for my nephew Jordan, who is about to be 14 in 2 weeks. Playing guitar, and teaching him this past year, has been a rare privilege for me.
Making music has always been a simple and easy pleasure, but to be able to share that with my family is something else. Playing guitar with my brother (Who has a fairly decent set of pipes himself) always touches me in a tender, and hard to reach place.
... That was the gift of my holiday yesterday. That did it for me. So now I'm polishing up my barre chords and quick transitions to play along with piano songs.
It has been a very long time since I even tried to play guitar with a piano player, and my skill level was not near where it has gotten to now. It's fun to play along with a pianist! And keep up (Sort of) haha. I still need to learn how to play piano.. such an elegant sounding instrument.
Anyway, Happiest of Holidays to everyone out there. I'm not the biggest fan of the season, but rejoice when the true heart of the holiday actually gets touched on.... This was one such occasion.
Enjoy the song.
