Thank God for....
I truly, deeply, and sincerely thank the Big Guy for having the wisdom to inject some guy with the notion to invent a Codpiece/jock/cup.
Teaching some new guys the absolute basics of kicking in martial arts...and using a dummy (Myself) for them to kick. I had all my fighting gear, figured it would be good for them to hit something solid... probably should have thought that one out a bit more. I guess it is starting to show that I have been away from the sport for awhile.
Most people naturally aren't very flexible when they start any sport, never mind Tae Kwon Do, which relies heavily on leg flexibility and it's all about the kicks.
Usually folks will drop their knee and swing their leg low, connecting with a shin, thigh, or...heaven forbid, the holy land.
I took seven groin kicks last night, and I tell you, my cup got used! Even with it, you still feel it all...and it's not terribly pleasant. It IS terribly uncomfortable.
Anyway, we got though it, and the kicks to the face from the taller guys. Enthusiastic bunch, and I'm also thankful for Mouthguards, now that I think about it.
I love the sport, I love teaching, and I love it when someone does a well executed kick or move..that moment when the lightbulb shines. Like me with math :-)
Until those cool moments happen, we pay our dues....and my dues seems to be getting paid via wire service in my crotch somewhere.
Next week will be better, now that they have the basics. It BETTER be better... I hope.
