V-D
I officially acknowledge that it's now ...for the next 23 hours...Valentines day.
A fabricated, money generating, expectation bloated, argument starting, frustration of a day...
And no, I'm not a fan. When I am in a relationship, then I will do my best to be the romantic and think up something special because yeah, it is nice to do something for your significant other, but I figure thats the norm, why designate a day...instead just be considerate every now and then and buy her flowers...when they aren't marked up 65%!
But then again... I'm single, so what do I know about relationships...communicating...compromise, or sacrifice? Psh!
Here is my Facebook status as of right now, for the day...
-It's officially V-D. And like the disease it so conveniently spells out... most folks just want it to go away as quickly as possible so they can forget it was ever inflicted on them- Deep Thought, By Ryan
I put up with VD because its expected, the other party has realistic (or unrealistic) demands and expectations of you for this day, and because good marketing campaigns tell us we have to...the barrage of ridiculous commercials, flyers, and bad radio ads really can drive one to become a hermit.
Bitter? Me?!? Hahahhaha.
I'm a fan of romance..just on the other 364 days of the year...the regular days when you are supposed to be making the efforts that you scramble to do on the one day...because its expected....and with the men...to not get yelled at.
Don't think that the menfolk in your lives are happy about this day, ladies. They will deny it till they die...but we hate this day.
So! That is my official Valentines Day rant. I will be treating it like any other day....until I get a day off of work, it doesn't count or register.
...I'm still working hard at getting Halloween as a day off of work. Now THERE is a holiday to be proud of! You get to dress up as anything you want, and instead of being frowned upon and made fun of, it's encouraged...and you get candy rewards for it!!! Glorious.
I think Jack Skellington had the right of it....and as the Blink 182 song says in I MIss You "we'll have Halloween for Christmas, and in the night we'll wish this never ends...wish this never ends."
Amen to that sentiment.
Now, I'm off to read some more of the awesome book Pirate Latitudes by Micheal Crichton, and sleep in late tomorrow... and that's the start of a good day..a day free of stress and possible disappointments from too high expectations. haha...
Nyar!
