Stories...
In my mind there are many stories. Most of them are floaters, like the pulp juice in your morning OJ. They kind of dance around, unobtrusive, until you take a big swig and it punches you in your sensory palette.
Now and then one of my floaters will come along and a piece of a story will click into place; a plot point, a character flaw, a background settings, historical note, anything like that....
The stories I have will vary immensely but what I think I can write the best would be one of two things. A good old fashioned Fantasy adventure (with a dark twist, one that I have secretly nurtured for years)... or something slightly ahead of our time. Maybe post apocalyptic.
Sadly, I know these 'sci-fi/fantasy' genres are being trounced right into the ground, but a deep part of me firmly, and truly, believes in 1) my craft, 2) my craftiness with the craft, 3) my style might just be decent enough to entertain through the eye rolling of "Oh no, ANOTHER Fantasy book with nothing new to offer"...4) I DO have something unique, and kind of visionary, and it kills me not to be able to share it sometimes, but I think its worth holding onto.
I love writing. I love people reading (and maybe loving) my writing. To be published as an author is my last great dream in life. One that maybe, just mayyyyybe, I might be able to attain...so maybe I should get on it instead of sitting and blogging here, right?
Well... I DO know that practice is the key with writing, as with any art form, and well.. what else would you call this, if not a lazy mans practice? Kind of like being an armchair athlete.
I suppose the first step is to write something publishable and send it in to a magazine of some sort.
This is what they tell me.... 'They' being accredited authors of great skill and esteem. People I adore and look up to. I have emailed with Tad Williams who actually responded with a volume of advice...and I have cherished the wisdom. I have gleaned what I could from George Martin, Stephen King, Micheal Crighton, and Tom Clancy....all of which have given sage advice along the way. It's out there folks...if you dig a little.
I am still reading James Clavell, and Im sad that he has passed these 16 years ago.... the guy was a genius and has so much historical knowledge it makes my head swim to think of how he had to get it all in his noggin...
READING?!?!?!? No Interweb?!?! What the SHEYAT!!??
Apparently thats how they did it back in the olden days. Go figure.
The passion is strong in me, and I am really hoping to start a healthy regimen once the move is completed...if its completed. Brother has a work out routine, Master Sonny will give me drills, and my brain will give me stories..... and I will have the space, the freedom, the time and the "wa" to take a good stab at it.
Wa, Japanese word for harmony.
yeah.. I read that... in a book... Im learninated but gud!!!
