hooooo boy!

Yeah, It's world cup fever.  I really don't like soccer, but was 'encouraged' by Sister to come out and support the Italians vs the New Zealanders
We went, drank too much cappuchino, secretly cheered for the underdog Zealanders (thos bastids have alot of heart, and a fantastic defense), but even if I don't like a sport, I can appreciate the skill and sportsmanship, as well as the competitive spirit laid over everything like a think paper wrap.

I am now jobless. Till Tuesday. Carless... for the foreseeable future. And with a job in a town about 90 minutes away, I think this will be rather....interesting.
  I desperately need a car...soon!

  Will work on that.

In the meantime, I left both my jobs on good terms, and with invites to return should things not work out otherwise, which I found touching.  I guess I am not such a bad worker after all.

On another note...  Here is a list of books I am reading.

The Shannara series, which I enjoyed as a young guy, I am finding hard to reread as a man grown, simply because my tastes have changed. I remember it being darker and more...perilous.  It strikes me as more contrived.  Something better suited to a teen or tween with decent reading ability.
Gai-Jin; a fantastic book, and a really stellar series by James Clavell... I cant say it enough, that this author is top notch, and a real pity that he has passed on. Political suspense, a wide cast of fully fleshed out characters, whom you love, hate or just love to hate, set in a little known era, in a little known segment of the world, that is full of adventure and a sense of newness.  Excellent reading. Shogun, Noble House, Gai Jin, are the three I have read from a series of 6, all dated at various times from 1600 up to 1976.
Lastly, I have recently purchased the SAS Survival Handbook.  A sweet deal, purchased very cheap, and a huge wealth of knowledge!  I have some limited military training and the basic survival skills trained therein, but this is an all encompassing tome, and full of useful information, common sense tips, as well as practical planning for anything from a car wreck to a group trip to mt Everest.
I am enjoying all that I read, but the SAS, being my newest addition, is my main focus, and I am loving it. Check em out!
