A Glimpse Into a Life , Part 1

Let us travel together awhile. I want you to read this and see a life, a world, a place, and a glimpse.

Imagine if you will opening your eyes in your bed. It's dark and quiet. You can feel your teddy bear beside you as you slowly wake up and adjust to the night time. You are 4 and this is the first memory you will have in your life.
You reach for your glasses and put them on, grabbing your teddy bear, aptly named Bear, by the paw and, in your spiderman jammies, wander into the darkened living room.
Normally the dark frightens you, but as your eyes focus a bit, you notice the radio is on, filling the night's quiet with a breath of sound. The arc sodium street lights add just enough light to the room for you to navigate to the couch and climb up onto it with Bear firmly in tow.
You are afraid of the dark but the sounds from the radio are entrancing. You sit and listen as Sting and the Police sing Roxanne and your heart is filled with the love of music, a love that will weave itself into every part of your life for every day that you live.
After one hour, you quietly grab Bears arm and slide off of the couch cushion and sneak back into your bunkbed, fearing getting caught and still deathly afraid of the dark.
You will proceed to wake up around 3 am every night for the next two years and listen to music for an hour before retreating back to bed.

fast forward...

You are 9 years old and have just moved away from all of your friends in the first big, and memorable move of your young life. You are in a classroom in the North End of your town, the roughest and meanest area of the city, and all the kids laugh at your large pink framed glasses and double lenses that cut you around the eyes for being so big and awful. You are poor and life is hard and unfair and you are learning to fight back the only way you know how.
You were a runt, undersized with tiny limbs and a huge head, a target for bullies so you learn two things. One being that your best weapon is your mouth and words and two, that if you can make people laugh, you will be alright in the world.
You continually get picked on until you make a bully cry with words alone, and a respect is formed towards you. Time moves forward and you find that you have a talent for making people laugh and something clicks inside you, in the deep spot. You are young but wisdom-old and know that this is a powerful thing and it is something you cultivate and work on as hard as you can for years. You now have social skills and an affinity for humor.

fast forward...
