Being content with the process.

I’m going to preface this post with the fact that I just about took a bite out of my unpeeled orange just now, thinking it was my apple.     If I’m rambling, it’s the fatigue and I hope to keep this short and sweet.    One of the hardest lessons to learn in life has been patience.  I think most people can relate to that comment as it’s not high on our collective priorities these days, in a world where everything comes to our door same or next day, drive thru everything, instant gratification is the norm and waiting for things has really fallen by the wayside, especially with self development.    I’m only speaking for myself as everyone’s journey is different but the past few years have really taught me the value of patience.  Waiting is hard but usually it’s worth it.  Not always, mind you, but usually.     Having to wait and see how dads doing with the chemo and the fight has taken more out of my than I recognized until this recent...

Laughter and Heartbreak

This blog has definitely become a fairweather friend to me, in that I can’t seem to normalize a writing schedule with it. Having said that, it’s also not been huge on my priority list what with all the life stuff to live.  Also I can be lazy so theres that.    The recent season has been a rough one, but I find myself less morose and more in waters I have never really been in before and that’s  the ocean of contentment, or maybe the sea of possibilities. Who knows, but I can say with certainty that every time something major in my life happens, especially the calamitous events, I no longer become the Eeyore I once did, or rail immediately against the heavens for such mistreatment.    No, these days there is a little bit more grace for my various situations, understanding that these too shall pass and at the end of the day the only things that absolutely have value are the relationships that you can’t place value on. As long as I have people living and...

Merry Christmas .. and a Bah Humbug too!

It’s that time of year! Snows on the ground, food and drink to be had, family and friends to be visited!! Hectic errands and shopping to be sorted out. It’s an insane month generally, but for most of us it’s a fun and happy time filled with good people and good memories.    I’ve never been a huge fan of Christmas. My mom ‘took away’ Christmas from us a few times as kids, so she could buy booze and party it all away.  That sucked.      As an adult, the commercialization of a heartfelt time sucked a lot of joy out of me as well as the hard childhood memories... till I became very .. Grinchlike.    The last few years I have struggled mightily with this sadness attached to a festive season and have largely won.  Excellent friends who care about me have kept a weather eye out and invited (dragged) me to various events to keep my spirits up, be it social events, small family dinners or just the traditional Christmas night hangout with a couple of g...

Pivot

Act of turning on one foot ( military )  The  officer  or  soldier  who simply turns in his place while the  company  or  line moves around him in  wheeling .   I’m pivoting. Changing direction in a short period and in quick succession, all of my plans and goals will move around me.    In the army if we turned left, we’d call it a left wheel and pivot on that foot. The inside soldier would be the pivot and all others would follow his or her lead.    The plans are changing and the landscape is now different. It’s time to pivot.    What does that look like?  I guess we will just wait and see...but it will be interesting, to say the least.  Pivot. It’s been on my mind all day. The direction isn’t working, it’s time to pivot. Change things. Be proactive instead of reactive... control what’s in my power to control.    So many sweet vaguaries for you, my loyal readers. Stay tuned.

Open Books

...on my way home and the swirl of thoughts going through my head are a storm-laden mess.    I’ve always held to the belief of the golden rule- do to others what you want done to you ... I still live by that but it seems that my open book policy has failed.    Sometimes you have to write the final words to a truly epic chapter of life, long or short, and it’s a painful thing.  This blog normally is an open book of my life and journey, sometimes vaguaries are required to protect identities...    Im not going to delve deeply into any of this.  It’s time to put aside my personal crap and prepare for a bigger situation, much bigger than me.   (And then I pity party hard... like Andrew W K)    I feel more and more like I’m cast adrift and foundering in the storms crashing waves, looking for something to hang onto.      I’ve realized one immutable fact.  It’s time to start swimming for my life and my well b...

Tomorrow...

...I’ll be better. Tomorrow I’ll do the things and say the words and motivate myself to try and roll on...   But that’s for tomorrow.  Today I am sad. I will be sad tomorrow but maybe a little less, maybe I’ll be busier and occupy the long and quiet hours with self development and jumping into the hobbies that usually make me happy...   For now, Sting and the Police say it better than I ever could.. King Of Pain - The Police  ...There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall, that's my soul up there There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall, that's my soul up there There's a blue whale beached by a springtide's ebb, that's my soul up there There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web, that's my soul up there I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a...

Small Victories

So, I’ve finally finished a six month stretch of training for my new job and it’s definitely with mixed emotions. Mostly good stuff though as I look ahead to a brave new future with possibility and cool stuff that I didn’t even think would be available to me even a year ago.    From finding out a parent is ill and losing my job as soon as I returned from being with him, to financial crises all winter long and battling just to survive, to stumbling on a pretty cool person to share my weird world with, finally succeeding at the job and passing training to now actually working and making a normal wage.    As of tonight, my first complete shift on a road trip, I gear up to head back home to winnipeg and put another road trip under my belt, there’s a sense of something good on the horizon. Not at all implying it will be easy as life refuses to work like that, but something worth working and fighting for. It’s a far cry from a year ago where my job was up in the air...
