Two steps forward ...

I have Paula Abdul stuck in my head and now so do you, my fellow readers.   This will be a quick check in as I'm pretty tired and lagging in the wit department lately.  It's funny, in my mind I was all like "I'm gonna write the most highhhhhlarious and witty and enjoyable blog ever, tonight!" And I'm all like "if zombies were attacking me to eat my brains, they'd just shuffle right along."   "And I'm all like...." Yep. Pretty much wraps up my mental capabilities. Been an emotional roller coaster lately. Some crushingly  bad news really knocked the wind out of my sails for a few days last week but I got back up again.  Life happens. We roll with it. There aren't any magical cures or easy roads in life, there's just life and we deal with it.  Mostly my news has been on the up and up, if not a bit frenetic in its pace.  Let's see here... In no particular order, I have a pretty bad ass tattoo now  I've wanted this since ...

Time outs

It's been awhile since my last post.  I know that I trend this way at times.  Fits and starts of writing then radio silence before finding the time/energy to post a slew of articles like a shotgun blast.  Rinse, and repeat.  This past while has been a bit different.  I seemed to be stuck with a bad case of the "feels" after allowing myself to fall for someone over the summer.  Woops, my mistake! Whew! Now that that's over with... Well it's not over with but I don't carry the weight of trepidation towards writing here again. The hurt fades and the memories pull back and life continues, it's the same old story on a brand new day.  I've made some positive changes in my life and slowly (hopefully) the ship is being steered into a new and enjoyable direction in my life. Let's abuse the old "new chapter" analogy here because #reasons  Yeah so I just hashtagged my own blog like a real champ.  My new co-pilot. Darth doesn't let me down!  The ...

Remembrance

This one is for the soldiers.   I served. I did my duty as a Canadian Infantryman.  I didn't do anything amazing or special. I simply served. I won't ever be called a hero, but I will always salute, honour, respect, and support the ones I do call a hero. My older brother served in the Infantry as well as me, and he is a hero, in my humble opinion. Several tours, medals and all the damage that goes with those singularly unique distinctions are the badges of honour that he never really shows people or talks much about. He's my brother, and we served. I understand and respect it. Doesn't mean it's ignored, or forgotten...   We remember the fallen. The young men and women who lived and died through out Canada's battles over the past century. Wars, battles, engagements 'policing actions' that made Canada who she is. The crucible of fire hardens a nation and through such testing an identity is born.   So for the veterans who have died on foreig...

Tonight...

A song, stuck in my head for awhile now.  A local band that is well worth exploring.  The Ripperz... Check them out.  "...Tonight, I'm a lonely soldier... and I think I've seen too much..." The Ripperz - Tonight Tonight, I'm a sinking ship Tragic end, a tragic story Tonight, I'm a house on fire Goin down, blaze of glory Can you lift me up, can you carry me home Can you lift me up, can you carry me home Tonight Tonight, I'm an empty room Waitin for your touch Tonight, I'm a lonely soldier And I think I've seen too much Can you lift me up, can you carry me home Can you lift me up, can you carry me home I wanna go home Tonight Tonight, I'm an achin heart Can't stop the bleeding Tonight, I'm fallin apart Piece by piece by piece by piece with the beating Can you lift me up, can you carry me home Can you lift me up, can you carry me home I wanna go home Tonight Carry me home...

A day away...

Sometimes you need to recharge and just rest up for your work week. We've all had those times where all of those 'not great' things in life just drop on you in the same day/week/month etc...   I've had me one of those weeks. The last seven days have been up and down but mostly down and that sucks. Being exceptionally ill for most of it just doesn't help you cope with life, you know, between sneezes, nausea, coughing and waking up every hour because you can't breath at night.     Yeah... That's just one aspect of the week I endured.     Sometimes you need to recharge. Physically, mentally, emotionally.  ...   And other times... Well, other times you need to get yourself all alone and work out your mind and body and emotions till they are all too damn tired to plague you at night and make you feel like a bruised up turd in an alleyway.      This sort of illustrates it for you    Pretty descriptive huh? Yeah, I kn...

Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam

I play guitar. Not well, mind you, but with heart and soul. My inspiration has always been Eddie Vedder. From my angsty youth to my full blown adulthood his various tracks, riffs, and melodious (or gut wrenching) lyrics have been there in the background, a patchwork soundtrack to a life.    The newest release, Sirens is now out and although mellow, is a pretty solid track.   I'm plugging this for a few reasons; Pearl Jam has earned an ode. This band is why I play and love music as much as I do. Them and the Police.    In the video you might notice a 12 strong acoustic. It's a huge pain in the ass to play but sounds like angels singing. My first two years of learning guitar were on a 12 string.  Murder on the fingers but worth it.   Lastly, these lyrics are poignant and for me, appropriate to the times.     I hope you enjoy it, gentle readers... Now stop reading and start listening... The link is the song. The lyrics are below if y...

Sometimes, when I'm talking to people, I get the suspicious notion that they are hearing/seeing this... " Beaker : [ singing ] Mee-mee-mee-mo." -direct IMDB quote, in case you doubted  Beeker just doesn't get enough face time so yeah... Any excuse!
