Challenge

I had read recently through TEDtalks' site about a fellow who wanted to talk about Happiness. Happiness at work? In this video, should you opt out of watching it, the Speaker Shawn Achor, challenges the listeners to try being happier.   The plan was a two part one, and part one was to list 3 things every day for 21 days that make you happy. Sounds simple enough, right?    I went onto FaceBook and proceeded to do exactly this... here are my 21 days' worth of results.   Side note - It wasn't as easy as it might seem. Ryans 21 Days of "Thinking Happy Thoughts" Day 1 - Three Things Im thankful for in y life - 1) University - didn't realize how much I missed learning things I actually care about 2) Tae Kwon Do - always enjoy it, and glad to make it part of my routines 3) Jets - I know it's lame but I'm happy they're back all the same. These three things have helped start the year off right. They make me happy. Day 2 -  1) my friends...

Never give up

Im posting this from work so it's a brief one but this video is worth the watch. This transformation is amazing and shows the strength of spirit and mind. Also though, DDP, Diamond Dallas Page, from wrestling fame is the coach for Arthur. Usually he plays a bad guy but I guess it's acting for a reason Check it out, see if it resonates. http://youtu.be/qX9FSZJu448

This is who I am....

Welcome to 2013.    As with all New Years ridiculousness, revelry, and presumed good times, there comes the time of resolutions!   One of my resolutions for this year (Although I still don't recall making it so it's suspect) is to get more serious about relationships...   Namely, consideration for actually having one. Even trying.   2012 was my year of relational 'No-Fly Zones'. I did this on purpose, and even though there were some prospects and some dates (and admittedly good times), I stuck to my guns.           For the record, Top Gun is on my No-Fly Zone for movie watching (ironic wordplay)   There is alot (A Lot, I know, I'm lazy, piss off) of pressure regarding relationships for a single man in his mid thirties.   I know, right? I barely look 28!    (scowl)   My sisters like to know what's going on in my love life, as do my inner circle of friends and assorted cast and...

NEW YEARS EVE!!!

Mumford&Sons - I Will Wait My, my... look at the time....   I do b'lieve that the lions' share of my posting happens on or after midnight on any given night; be it workday, holiday, or whatever day that the bug has settled squarely on my mind.   It's officially New Years Eve.    I sit in my living room with my 40 inch Samsung TV/computer monitor helping me burn the dregs of the midnight oil, lights lit, music playing (At a quasi-respectable volume... it IS almost 4 am and I have some neighbours... I think) and I'm trying to wrestle through some of the big things that are in front of me.   I fear this blog may slip sideways into 'Rantsville' at some point. You know... where the hillbilly cousins live that no one wants to admit they're related to. Yeah. That.   First off, let us clear the formalities.  Happy Holidays! We all know how I feel about said Holidays of course ...   I Spent my holiday (Yes, I took Pre/Post Christmas of...

Dating in your 30's.....

Image
Dating in your Thirties... I've been thinking more and more about this activity as time goes on, and I figured, what the hell.... let's address this.   As someone on the ass end of the dirty thirties now, I have noticed that dating has only gotten harder, at least for me. More and more it seems like the stories are all the same, the personalities are all ones you have seen and/or possibly dated somewhere in the past, and really, the crazy ratio seems to be getting higher.   My personal rule for women is this; 25%. 25% of the time a woman can be crazy and wild and moody.... anything exceeding this rough percentage is simply too much for my patience to bear, and I need to bail.    Now! Not to say you cant be as crazy as you please, as often as you want, ladies.. by all means... do as you will, just scratch my name off the walls of your insane 'to do lists' of the mind. I simply don't care to get involved in that anymore. Life is just too damn shor...

Mexican Americans don't like to just get into gang fights, they like flowers and music and white girls named Debbie too. Mexican Americans are named Chata and Chella and chemma and have a son in law named jeff. Mexican Americans don't like to get up early in the morning but they have to so they do it real slow. Mexican Americans love education so they go to night school and take spanish and get a B. Mexican Americans love their Nana's and their Nono's and their Nina's and their Nino's........ Nano Nano Nina Nono! Mexican Americans don't like to go to the movies where the dude has to wear contact lenses to make his blue eyes brown cause don't it make my brown eyes blue..... "And thats all i got, how do ya like it?"
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods; There is a rapture on the lonely shore; There is society, where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and the music in its roar; I love not the man the less, but Nature more... -Lord Byron      More and more, my heart is turning to this direction. Solitude, quiet, nature. Every day I struggle more and more with city life, and my 'personal action plan' will hopefully get me one step closer to my goal....   This quote is the intro to a fantastic movie, "Into The Wild"... Such a good movie, and based on actual events.  A guy just has enough and decides to trek out to the furthest wilds.... inspiring! Also Eddie Vedder, my personal musical hero, does all the music....
